Gender inequality
Gender Inequality is a big issue throughout the whole world. But I specifically chose Latin America. In Latin America, females are looked down upon at. Many countries such as Brazil and Mexico are big on women being a "lower class". Such inequality exists in the work field, home labor and even rights. To begin with, women have fewer rights than men. For example, women are earning lower pay checks than males. Also, they are being forced to be house wives instead of doing something big like lawyers, doctors, etc.
In Latin America, women receive a lower wage than men. A good example of this act is in Brazil where the largest gap of wage is found. Stated in the article, Brazil has also made a big effort on women equality. Statistics show that women earn on average 17% less money than men even if they have a higher education. Among Brazil, Chile also has the biggest difference in wages. Mexico has had a big percentage, up to 18%. Though it has decreased to 12% in 2004.
A theory in why women earn less than men is that women are supposed to be "households". They are needed more at home to clean and take care of children. That is one of the basic beliefs in Latin America. Women are not supposed to take on important jobs because it's the men who represent. An addition to this is that when kids are in need at home, women have to tend to them which causes women to have part time jobs which ultimately cause a lower wage.
Apart from having household responsibilities, women are also kept away from success because of domestic violence. Men think they have a higher power than women causing them to feel in charge and the only voice. And when women try to break from this rule, the result is abuse. Women have a smaller voice when a man is in charge. Which decreases their opportunity to succeed.
As stated in the article, women are more vulnerable and not thought as having enough power and mind to have high authority. As stated before, women are thought to have a lower representation. But to conclude, women have a lower authority. And will always have fewer right unless their is a reform. Gender inequality is down grading the society causing an instability between genders.
